Bluebonnet trails

Remember I mentioned bluebonnets in my last post? (here)

Well, I saw even more of them this weekend. Millions more.

And they were gorgeous. Like a carpet of purple flowers spreading as far as the eye could see.

It's no wonder that Texans love them. I do too!

And their smell was simply heavenly.

I didn't expect them to have much of a smell... I guess because I never see bluebonnet scented lotion, or bluebonnet scented soap, or bluebonnet scented candles. But man oh man, there should be!

These bluebonnets were outside of Ennis, Texas. There are "bluebonnet trails"... basically backroads marked with signs for where to see the best flower shows. I love driving backroads (especially gravel roads!) and I love flowers, so this was my kind of trip! My husband isn't really into flowers as much as I am, but even he was impressed with some of the gorgeous views.

Lots of other people were out enjoying the bluebonnets with us, many of them taking photographs, like in the picture below. In the best spots, there were people everywhere! But not so many that it took away from the experience.

I think this just might become a new spring tradition!

Spring has sprung!

The bluebonnets are starting already!

I just love these flowers... they are a true Texas rite of spring.

These are growing in the median just down the street from our house. Lucky us!

Can't wait until they begin lining the roadsides. I think some road trips may be in order over the next few weeks for hubby and I!

blossom pillow

I haven't shared a crafty post in a long time.

It's time for that to change!

So, here is a pillow I recently completed. A lovely flower pillow! I chose a buttery yellow fabric, because it was bright and cheery, and because I felt like it fit in with our decorating style. But when I finished sewing it up, I found that it didn't actually coordinate with any of our living room or bedroom furniture or fabrics. Hmm. I'm awesome like that. But no matter, I love it anyway!

I made this pillow using Sweetie Pie Bakery's "petal pusher pillow" pattern. It was pretty easy to follow, but there were a few details I had to make up as I went along. The biggest change was that the pattern was made to work with a 12" round pillow. I could only find 10" and 14"... so I went with 14" and I think there's a little too much blossom-less space around the edge. I guess I could add another row of petals... but probably not.

It was fun to make and now I can't wait to start some other projects to brighten up our house!

Have you made any projects to decorate your home with lately?
