And now for something fun that I've been working on...
Whether you love or detest marshmallow peeps (I'm a 'love', if you didn't guess!), you'll adore this project. Simple to make, contains no calories and perfect for a lucky child's Easter basket... or just to brighten up your home!
Marshmallow Bunny Plushies!
To make these little bundles of fun, click the button below to print the pattern and then continue underneath for a detailed photo tutorial. [I have attached the pattern as a Google Drive file; if this causes anyone problems, please let me know and I will attempt to attach it as a plain old pdf. Thanks!]
You will need:
* less than 1/4 yard of fleece or felt (I used fleece because it is softer and fluffier, but felt would work fine as well)
* matching thread
* polyester stuffing
* dark brown embroidery floss for eyes and nose
Fold fabric in half and cut fabric as instructed on pattern. You will end up with 2 body pieces and one strip that is 23 inches long (be sure to place the pattern on the fold of the fabric).
Hand embroider eyes and nose onto front side (the thicker, "fluffier" side of fleece is the front) of one of the body pieces. I did a satin stitch in a small circle for both the eyes and the nose. Don't know how to embroider? It's easy: How to make a satin stitch
Next, fold the long strip in half (right sides together) and sew the open side shut with a 1/4" seam, forming a loop.
Pin the loop all the way around the perimeter of the front body piece (right sides together) and sew together with a 1/4" seam. This is a little tricky, especially around the ears, but if you take your time (and use lots of pins, lol!) it's not so bad.
This is what your bunny should look like so far.
Now, pin the back body piece facing down to other side of the loop (right sides together). It should look like a bunny-shaped ice cream sandwich. Sew around the perimeter, with a 1/4" seam leaving about 3 inches open at the bottom for turning.
Flip the bunny right side out, stuff with polyester filling and hand sew the opening closed. Your bunny is done!
See! I told you it was so simple!
I even added a little extra sweetness to my bunnies' backsides:
(I did this before sewing the pieces together. I'm still working on my embroidery techniques, as I'm sure you can see, but I thought it was sweet anyway!)
Now go make your own!
I'd love to see how everyone else's bunnies turn out! If you decide to make one (or many!), please add your photos to the Dandelions & Lace Flicker Group! If you don't use Flickr and you decide to blog or post photos of your bunnies elsewhere, please leave me a comment with a link! Can't wait to see them!
UPDATE: I've heard from a couple of people who had questions about printing the pattern. You should be able to open the pattern by clicking the "CLICK HERE FOR PATTERN" button above. Once the pattern is open, click the PRINT button at the top left. Send me a note at dandelionsandlace@gmail.com if you have troubles!

ReplyDeleteI hate to eat peeps, but these are adorable!! I'm definately digging through my fleece stash to make these! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteLove, love the pattern. The bunny all pinned up is kind of funny. Looks like someone had a bad day and took it out on the voo doo bunny! :)
ReplyDeleteOooh these are just TOO CUTE! Thank you so much. I really look forward to the chicks too. My Granddaughter will love these. As far as eating Peeps ~ I have to admit they aren't the first thing I grab to snack on if other Easter candies are in the house, BUT......I do have to buy a bunch of these each year. I don't know if there is anyone else that does this, but I like them better after they become 'stale'. LOL I have NO idea why but I love them once they are a little more firm after they've been open to the air for a few days or more. THEN I love them so much more. Yea, ok....go ahead and laugh at me now. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you again for such an adorable pattern.
Thanks so much for the pattern and instructions. I just made some and they turned out super cute! I love them!
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU. I had so much fun making these!!!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely adorable! I'm hoping you come out with a chickie pattern soon!
ReplyDeleteFYI- I'm working on these for Easter baskets and found that 1/4 yard makes four adorable bunnies. Just put the strips on the fold and cut four strips then place the bunny part ear on edge, alternating up and down.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE these peeps! Thank you so much for the tutorial and pattern! You rock!
ReplyDeleteAww those are so sweet! I love your initials on the bunny's backsides. :)

About those pins - may I suggest that you baste around the edge with a single strand of thread - about 1/4 inch per stitch? It's faster than pinning (don't have to reach for another pin each time; you already have the needle in your hand) and you get finger-poked much less! When you're done, the edge is more secure to machine stitch, and you don't have to worry about clogging the machine with pins. Just yank the basting thread out at the end...no taking pins out one at a time.
ReplyDeleteDarling!
ReplyDeleteomg I just sent your link to everybody because these are absolutely amazing!

I admit, the fleece ones are the cutest. But terry's cute too. I would post a picture if I could figure out how. Thanks for the precise and easy to follow instuctions. Good job.
ReplyDeleteHi! Love the idea and want to make some for my four little ones for Easter but I can't get the pattern to download or print. It shows up, but when I press the file dropdown I don't get a print option, only download. When I press download it says that the document cannot be found! HELP! New sewer so winging it is not possible:( Thanks!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you are having so much trouble! I'm not seeing a print option under File anymore, either. Maybe Google docs has changed their layout. Anyway, underneath the File-Edit-View-Help line, there should be some icons: two arrows, a printer and two magnifying glasses. If you click the printer icon, you should be able to print it. If you continue to have problems, send me another note with your email address and I can send the file to your email. Hope it works!! Amanda
DeleteThese are adorable! I used a picture of them off Pinterest on my blog yesterday here: http://creativityandcardigans.blogspot.com/2012/03/oh-how-pinteresting-wednesday-easter.html I'm hoping to make some over my Easter break too!!!

ReplyDeletedone!
DeleteHello! I'm going to try and make these for some friends for Easter! And I was wondering...when I print the patten will it come out like the size it's supposes to on it's own?
ReplyDeleteYes, it should print at exactly the right size if you print it at 100% on 8 1/2 x 11 size paper. Good luck! :)
DeleteYou should put them in a little basket with Easter grass. Very colorful and cute. Creative and fun.
ReplyDeleteI can't access the pattern and I would love to give these a try! Could you please email it to me at echoscries@gmail.com when you get a chance?
ReplyDeleteI can't access the pattern either. Is it still available?
ReplyDeleteHi Peggy! I can't seem to figure out what the problem is because it always opens just fine for me, but I am looking into it again... Anyway, I would be happy to send you a pdf of the pattern if you send me your email address, either in another comment or to my email: dandelionsandlace@gmail.com
DeleteHi! I loved the idea and I was decided to do it. Peluche conejo azul I sorry for the translation, I'm Spanish
ReplyDeleteThose are BEYOND adorable :).
ReplyDeleteHi! Thanks for sharing this tutorial with the world! I just wanted to give you a head's up that I'll be linking to it from my blog (http://sewlindsaysew.wordpress.com) in a post about my ten favorite Easter-inspired projects! Happy Sewing!
ReplyDeleteThat's great! Thank you so much for featuring them! :)
DeleteThanks for sharing. First try not so good. Sewing straight end and curves not my forte.
ReplyDeleteWheni printed out the pattern the rectangle strips were differnt widths. Is that right?
ReplyDeleteNo, they should be the same width. Make sure your printer is set at 100% scale and not at "fit to page". Good luck!
DeleteThese sweet bunnies are just the ticket. Good work! Thank you. They are a good hand sewing project.
ReplyDeleteI just made the first one and it turned out so fabulous!! It even has my husband impressed! ha! I can't wait to make a whole batch of them!
ReplyDeleteI want to eat these cute little bunnies! they look yummy! LOL! :) thanks for the tutorial! I featured this here: http://www.plushiepatterns.com/marshmallow-bunny-stuffie-by-dandelions-and-lace/
