White Rock Marathon

The White Rock Marathon was held today in Dallas. In fact, part of the race went right through our neighborhood. "The Rock" as it's known by runners, is a real 26-mile, competition-level marathon attracting over 22,000 runners and it's a pretty big deal. Due to the many street closures for the race, we knew we'd have trouble getting *OUT* of the neighborhood, especially during the first part of the day.

When I got out of the shower this morning, hubby excitedly called me into the living room. He was watching the marathon coverage on TV and apparently there was a group of runners from Kenya who were way ahead of everyone else. They were over an hour ahead of the main group and were just speeding through the course. They were headed over to our neck of the woods and he wanted to walk over to the course (several blocks away) so that we could see them run by.

Our problem was probably that we walked, rather than ran, as we unfortunately missed the group of Kenyan runners. They had already passed by the time we made it over to the course. We did, however, get to see a bunch of the other leaders in the race. We didn't hang out there too long, as it was a bit chilly, so we didn't see all 22,000 runners, but it was nice to get a little taste of the race.

I especially enjoyed the signs posted for the runners. Below are some of my favorites.
